SIGHISOARA – the Medieval Citadel

It is the only inhabited citadel in Eastern Europe, one of the best preserved mediaeval citadels in Europe, a magical mix of winding cobbled alleys, steep stairways, secluded squares, towers and turrets. It is alleged to be the birth place of the ruler that inspired the fictional Count Dracula - Vlad Tepes. The house in which he was born lies at the foot of the Clock Tower which is the main entrance to the citadel. You can have fun by trying to find all the towers that are still standing or simply just walking inside the citadel and looking at the old houses still inhabited.

How to get there:
By car: 1,5 hour drive, on E68 (to Cluj)
By train: Departure from main train station. For time table please check here; Cost: aprox. 20 Euro, round way
